Dear Red,

The Kimberley has been the spotlight more than ever with new marine park plans being released side by side with a proposal to copper mine horizontal falls, a new Broome shire council with an indigenous majority and lots of great protests and actions around the country.

When you think of our Kimberley seas, do you think of nature safe haven or industrial wasteland? If you chose the former please sign and share out online petition to help protect more than 1% of the most intact tropical marine wilderness areas on the planet!

Good news: the latest marine park plan which connects the Kimberley to the Pilbara coast 80 Mile beach – has been released and isn’t half bad with three large sanctuary areas. If you would like to suggest some improvements via a submission– please check out easy guide and help ensure our endemic flatback rookeries are protected.

You may already know that Horizontal falls is one of the top tourism destinations of the Kimberley coast – and described by David Attenborough as one of the natural wonders of the world. However, this hasn’t stopped the proposal of a new copper mine on its door step.

Check out the latest report update by Murdoch University Cetacean experts on flawed science of the gas hub environmental assessment.

Broome update: The Broome shire council now has three elected members who oppose the gas hub, including the deputy shire president, Anne Poelina. The Kimberley blockade has now been running for 150 days, with several more lock-ons and arrests and a recent protestors report announced that over 1000 hrs of work has so far been stopped.
